I was originally thinking of attending a school in the city but I would prefer to skip the commute and attend a school on Long Island. Is there any reason that you chose to attend a school in NYC rather than a Long Island school (since you don't live all that far from Long Island). I was thinking about the Long Island Nail and Skin Care Institute or the New York Institute of Beauty in Syosset, Long Island. Have you, or anyone else heard of these schools?

I love being in NYC and commuting by train. I hate to drive to Long Island. Plus the only schools I heard anyone talking about were those in the city.

Hi, I went to Look at Aveda last week, I wanted to ask those who have attended if they have found jobs after attending the esthetics program? Did Aveda help with job placement? Is the cost of the program worth it?

I attended Aveda Institute in NYC full time for four months and graduated in November 2010. With my retail cosmetics experience and manager past work, I was hired to run a spa in midtown full time. In addition to my salary I also made extra commissions and gratuities ion esthetic services. 2011 was my most lucrative year EVER. I highly recommend Aveda over other schools because of the retail and waxing training. Other schools DO NOT give you much training in this area and as a manager I have interviewed many estheticians from Valmy and Atelier who just could not wax, esp brazilian waxing which is a demand in NYC. In a year I plan on returning to Aveda to teach. Good luck in your search and career! :)

Hi all, I'm looking into esthetician schools in NYC. Mainly Christine Valmy, Aveda and Dermatologica. Is there anyone who has attended those schools for the 600 program that can send me any useful feedback? Also, do the schools help you with job placement after you complete the program? If so, was it difficult to find a job as an esthetician fresh out of school?? Any helpful feedback will be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!

Hi everyone, I recently decided to attend esthetician school, however, the problem is now I can't decide where to go! I've read through comments about Atelier Esthetique, which was the first school that I had heard about. I noticed in some of the older comments some students were not pleased with their experience and the more recent comments were definitely more positive. So I can safely assume there have been some improvements. I like the fact that Financial Aid is available. Now I can't seem to find much information on Dermalogica Academy. Has anyone attended who can elaborate on their course?

Dermalogica is 11k. DAMN. Also, the consultant I spoke with said the program is more oriented towards "Skin Therapy", not a split focus of waxing/makeup application/and skin care. I'm interested in being well-rounded.

Yes I'm interested in becoming an esthetician and I visited all three Schools in New York: Christine Valamy - very clean and zen!!! I was impressed. I went to Atelier Esthetique and was not that impressed with the surroundings...they were renovating additionally the price was $2,000 more than Valamy's. Then I visited Aveda and was very impressed with the surroundings eventhough I was keept waiting an hour to speak with the admissions person when I had an appointment. But with Aveda and Valamy, I'm afraid that I will only learn about their products only and not be taught about what else is out there in the industry...a neutural prospective which I hope that Atelier will hopefully provide.
I GO TO DERMALOGICA ACADEMY NOW AND I LOVE IT $10,000, IS WELL WORTH IT
They say they provide their student with interest free financing. But how many payments do they allow you, because $10,000 in 4 months is a veeery steep payment for anyone.

I recently graduated from Atelier Esthetique Institute. I loved Ms. Michele, Ms. B, and Ms. S--terrific teachers. I learned a lot, but when it was time for me to graduate--Ms. Hanson did NOT show up to take a photo w/me nor give me the sit down that she usually does w/the other graduates(consisting of 5+ students). I joined the course as a solo student, a class by myself, so what if I was the only one w/my graduation date, I paid $10k to attend just like every single student. I felt that was extremely disrespectful. Be aware potential students, if u join alone--do NOT expect Ms. Hanson to show up on your graduation date.
I'm about to start classes at Aveda in Soho...I really couldn't figure out why anyone would even go to Carsten-Aveda because it seems like a hair school that added on an esthi program. Even the website says so...so I wouldn't even think about their skin program. I hear good reviews about Aveda in Soho. But it does seem like Christine Valmy and Atelier are better known and have longer-standing reputations. Although I spoke to an Atelier grad and she was disappointed in Ms. Hansen's frequent plastic surgery and attempts to hide it while working at the front desk . She said the education was good, but she didn't feel that it was a good representation of beauty . I would have considered Atelier, but I was not interested in the medical side of esthetics. I may go for their laser program one day. I specifically chose Aveda in Soho because of the natural products. Every school uses one or a few specific lines so that really doesn't bother me. I just didn't want to use products that I personally wouldn't use on my own skin. I plan on either making my own products for personal use (I'm also a massage therapist), or using a natural line that's already out there. However I did ask major spa HR rep which schools she recommended and her choices were Atelier, Christine Valmy, and Aveda. She said you can't go wrong with either one. But she did say NO to Lia Schorr and told me NOT to go there.
lol, Ms. Hanson's plastic surgery--check under her chin for the scar.

Hi all! In the last couple of months, I've been considering a career change and I am very interested in becoming an esthetician. I've already visited 2 schools Atelier Institute & Christine Valmy. I'm leaning towards CV because the cost is less and the facility is much nicer. I have a 3rd visit at DermalogicaAcademy, but their evening course will interfere with my FT job, so it looks like CV will be my choice. I am, however, confused with CV laser course... They only offer a 7 hr. course for $375. Both Atelier Institute & DermalogicaAcademy offer a laser course for 7 days and at 3k. How can CV offer this course for cheap and for so little time? Has anyone else taken the laser Hair removal course at Christine Valmy? If yes, was it worth it or would you suggest I go elsewhere?
